FAQs

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How does Surfskates differ from longboards?

The Surf Skateboards offer a completely new and different way of riding compared to conventional longboards! The motion sequences on the surf skateboards come very close to surfing and are therefore very different from longboarding and skateboarding.

The Surfskate trucks allow you to build up speed by shifting your weight on the board. You can ride the surf skateboards and get faster without having to swing your foot on the street. This is not possible with normal skateboard or longboard trucks!

The body movement required for this is called pumping and is identical to the movement sequences when surfing.
The Surfskate trucks are much more manoeuvrable than longboard trucks and allow very tight curves, radii that are simply not possible with longboard trucks!

Turns on a surf skateboard are very similar to movements on a surfboard. Carver trucks are specially developed for everyone who wants to experience surfing movements.

Am I a surf skate beginner?

You have no experience with longboards, skateboards or carver skateboards? This is not a problem! Everyone starts small!

With a little practice you will learn how to pump and do turns with the Carver Skateboards very quickly. After the first few sessions you will make significant progress and you will get the hang of it!

As a beginner, you will feel more comfortable on a stable board. We therefore recommend a longer and wider board with a larger center distance.
We advise beginners to wear protective equipment such as helmets and knee pads.

What is a surfskate?

A surfskate is a skateboard for surfing on the street! The special front axle enables motion sequences similar to surfing and surfing. The Surfskate is, so to speak, a surfboard for the street. The turning dynamics of the Surfskate axis enables short and agile turns to be made, just like when surfing.

A surfskate can be pumped along the street – drive it and build up speed – without putting your foot on the street. This feeling is unique and the movements are not possible with conventional longboards.

If you can’t wait for the next surf trip, want to improve your surfing skills or are simply looking for a super fun cruiser for the city, a surfskate is just the thing for you!

Which surf skateboard is right for me?

Which surf skateboard is right for you depends on your height, your shoe size and also the area of application as well as your personal preferences.

The higher your body or shoe size, the larger the deck should be. For big boys, we recommend a slightly longer and wider deck. If you are smaller and lighter, you will also feel very comfortable on a shorter and narrower board.

The larger the board, the easier it is for beginners to get started and the safer it is to ride. Keeping your balance on a bigger board is easier at first. For beginners, we generally recommend a larger board with a higher center distance.

If your goal is to simulate surfing, your position on the surfskate and your surfboard should ideally be identical. You can find out more about this on our blog.

Decks differ not only in their width, but also in their curvature, the so-called concave. The lower the concave, the easier the board control.

Which surf skate is best for surf training?

For surf training we recommend the boards from Swelltech. The Surfskate truck systems from Swelltech allow a very close feeling to surfing. You have to move like being on a shortboard to skate swelltech surfskates. Special adjustments like our springs make Swlltech surfskates even more compareable to surfing for an advanced level.

YOW Surfskates are the closest of the rest of the pack. We recommend them especially if it comes to skate park or bowl skating and you are new in this environment. They have a bit less range of movement then swelltech, but have the advantage to feel more stable in a ramp.

It is all a bit subjective and depends also on your goals in surfing, so you should make your own picture.
